How is each piece made?

It’s a long process that takes around three to four weeks in total. For the pieces that start on the wheel, a basic body is thrown which then must partially dry before it can be trimmed. After I have the core body of the piece, I sculpt any additional parts like faces or handles and attach each one individually. Then the whole thing needs to dry out slowly before I can even start painting the design. I use colored underglaze to paint my work in four layers per color and then the piece must be fired twice and glazed. It’s a wonderful exercise in patience and delayed gratification and I never know exactly how it will turn out until it is fired that second time, usually a few weeks after I start it.

What do you mean each piece is unique?

Well, for now I am only making one of each design, which means if you buy something, no-one else in the world is going to have anything like it. Even if I repeat some of my creatures, because of the nature of my process and the fact that I am not using molds to duplicate anything, each one is completely unique from the shape to the color and the way it is painted. I don’t like being bored.

What if I see something I love and it has already sold?

No problem! Just get in touch and I can work with you to make a new custom piece, we can talk about what you like about that one, and how we can make your version even more perfect for you.

Can I make a custom order?

Sure! I would love to hear your ideas! I can talk to you about what combination of things might work best and we can go from there. I’ve found that some combinations of animals work better than others so it’s always best to come into it with an open mind and a willingness to collaborate. Do you have an innate love of bears? Sloths? Narwhals? Have you always wondered what it would look like if a seal and a tiger hung out? Do you love popcorn and candy necklaces? Are you an obsessive pet parent and you want to see your little one immortalized in clay? Me tooooo!

What is your shipping policy?

Anything listed as “ready to ship” will be on it’s way within 7 days of your order. For custom orders, please allow 4-6 weeks as ceramics is an especially temperamental medium and if something goes wrong in the firing, pieces may need to be fixed or re-made in order to get it just right.
